Abstract

Complex Buildings can be defined as complex systems whose spatiality, transcending the architectural and urban scale, is characterised by the promiscuity of antithetical spaces such as indoor/outdoor and public/private. Complex Buildings can thus be defined as counter-spaces, where the physical dematerialisation of pre-established architectural boundaries generates actual heterotopias. The topic of Complex Buildings has recently regained space within the academic debate thanks to research aimed at defining their typological origins. This text, therefore, attempts to contribute to this line of research by describing those new typologies tested during the rural modernisation of the Agro Pontino.
